Now one year and a few months are left for Team India’s Mission World Cup, but it is difficult to say whether the main players will be fit to participate in the Cricket World Cup. After losing the ODI series in England, Indian captain Shubman Gill had expressed concern over the fitness of the players.

Questions on fitness from England series

In the T20 and ODI series against England, the top players of Team India were seen getting trapped in the injury trap. These included not only fast bowlers but also spinners. Fast bowler Harshit Rana, who returned after injury, was out of the ODI series due to hamstring injury, whereas Harshit had returned from a knee injury in this tour of Britain.

Same was the condition of Varun Chakraborty. Varun got injured in the third match of the T20 series against England and was ruled out of the series. Later Varun was also given a break from the Zimbabwe tour. Team India’s all-rounder Washington Sundar got injured in the second ODI against England. Sundar was out of the third ODI due to hamstring injury. At the same time, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah could not play in the last match of the ODI series against England due to injury.

Injury before Afghanistan series

All-rounder Hardik Pandya was selected for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan played in June this year. Hardik also got a clean chit from the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, but the next day he was out of the team due to back pain and is still out.

Earlier during the IPL, Team India’s fittest player Virat Kohli also became a victim of hamstring injury and was ruled out of the Afghanistan series. However, Rohit Sharma got a clean chit from the COE and he took the field against Afghanistan. Rohit was also troubled by hamstring injury during IPL.

Injury in Afghan series

In the third ODI of the Afghanistan series, Team India’s all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy got injured due to muscle pain and after that he was dropped from the England tour. All-rounder Suryansh Shedge was included in place of Nitish. The series of injuries continues with Nitish.

Questions raised on COE

The way the team players are continuously getting injured, it has raised questions on the role of the Center of Excellence. After all, what is the reason that despite having world-class facilities, the medical staff of COE is not able to manage the injuries of the players properly. How are young players getting injured in the next series even after getting the clearance certificate?

The biggest question is that most of the players included in the injury list are young. The special thing is that most of the players are becoming victims of hamstring injuries. Despite this, why is no mechanism being brought into the COE so that player injuries can be tracked? It is clear that if the injury trend continues like this then the Mission World Cup may be in danger.
