The Commonwealth Games 2026 are starting from today, which are being hosted by Glasgow. The Indian camp has got a shock on the very first day, as judo star Arun Kumar has been out of the Commonwealth Games due to failing in the dope test. Arun had to withdraw his name from the event after the doping investigation conducted by India’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
Arun Kumar was going to participate in the 73 kg weight category and India had hopes of a medal from him in Judo. Meanwhile, Judo Federation of India President Mukesh Kumar said that Arun Kumar was a big contender for the medal, unfortunately now the Indian Federation will not announce his replacement. Due to this, the number of Indian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games has reduced from 125 to 124.
In the last few years, Arun has brought great fame to India in Judo. He hoisted the flag of India by winning the gold medal in the 2023 Macau Junior Asian Cup and then the gold medal in the 2025 Taipei Asian Open. Apart from this, he also won the bronze medal in the Hong Kong Asian Open.
In the same year, Arun Kumar had secured seventh position in the Tashkent Grand Slam, after which he secured qualification for the Commonwealth Games. Let us tell you that a total of 126 athletes had got the green signal for the Commonwealth Games, but other athletes including Arun Kumar were also found guilty of doping, after which the number of athletes has come down to 124.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games are starting from today i.e. 23rd July and will continue till 2nd August. Let us tell you that sports like hockey, badminton and wrestling were removed from the Commonwealth Games 2026. Earlier these games were to be held in Victoria, Australia, but in 2023 Victoria had withdrawn from hosting. Glasgow took over hosting duties in April 2024 and due to less time to build the infrastructure, the number of games was reduced to just 10.
