As soon as the news of the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan came out, pictures of both excitement and anger were seen among the competitive students in Sangam city Prayagraj. The students, who have been agitating for a long time against paper leaks, irregularities in recruitment examinations and demanding reforms in the examination system, termed this news as a major success in their fight.
However, this atmosphere of happiness soon turned into a violent demonstration and an incident of vandalism also came to light in the Civil Lines area. The atmosphere in Prayagraj remained heated since morning. Thousands of competing students from various hostels, lodges and coaching institutes took to the streets. The students said that continuous paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment processes have affected their future, hence their demands should be heard seriously.

vandalized the car
Due to a large number of students coming out on the road, traffic on many major routes including Civil Lines, Katra, Bailey Road was badly affected and there was a jam situation for hours. As soon as the news of resignation spread, a large number of students gathered at Subhash Square. The students raised slogans, expressed happiness by feeding each other sweets and celebrated. But during this time a part of the demonstration became violent. In the Civil Lines area, the mob stopped a car passing through the road and vandalized it. The glass panes of the vehicle were damaged, creating an atmosphere of chaos at the spot. After the incident, many shopkeepers closed their shops as a precaution.
Police and PAC deployed
Seeing the situation, the police and administration were already on alert mode. Heavy police force and PAC were deployed in sensitive areas including the Civil Lines protest site. Senior police officers remained constantly present at the spot and kept the situation under control and appealed to the students to maintain peace.
At present, security arrangements have been tightened in the entire area and the police are constantly monitoring the situation. The protesting students say that this is an important milestone in their long fight and now they will continue the movement until transparency in the examination system and resolution of their other demands.
