The threat of cyclone ‘Noul’ has increased rapidly over the southern part of China. The National Meteorological Center has issued a ‘red alert’, the highest level of warning in China’s cyclone warning system, amid the possibility of the cyclone hitting the coast of Guangdong province. In view of the danger, the administration has taken several emergency measures, while hundreds of flights and high-speed train services have been canceled in Hong Kong.
Cyclone ‘Naul’ to hit Guangdong coast
The National Meteorological Center said in its bulletin issued late on Saturday night that this year’s 12th cyclone ‘Naul’ is moving towards hitting the coast of Guangdong province of southern China. According to the center, late Saturday night the center of the cyclone was located over the sea about 100 kilometers south-east of Huidong county of Huizhou city of Guangdong.
Winds reach Force-14, storm will become more powerful
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum intensity of winds near the center of the cyclone has reached Force-14. It is estimated that the cyclone will move in the north-west direction at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour and during this time its strength may increase further. According to the government news agency Xinhua, after hitting the Guangdong coast, the cyclone will move towards north-northwest and gradually weaken.

Emergency preparations increased for floods and cyclones
In view of the threat of the cyclone, China’s National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has raised the emergency response to level three to deal with floods and cyclones in Guangdong province. At the same time, in view of the danger of possible floods in Jiangxi and Hunan provinces, fourth level emergency response has been implemented.
Alert, flights and train services affected in Hong Kong also
In view of the impact of the cyclone, the Hong Kong Meteorological Department also implemented emergency measures on Saturday. In view of the seriousness of the situation, more than 410 flights and 150 high-speed rail services have been cancelled. Apart from this, the Home Affairs Department has also opened 28 temporary shelter sites to protect people from possible disaster. The administrations of China and Hong Kong have appealed to the people to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the Meteorological Department. Relief and rescue agencies have also been put on high alert to deal with possible disaster.
