Prahlad Joshi was born on 27 November 1962 in Vijayapura, Karnataka. His father was Late Venkatesh Joshi, an employee in the Indian Railways and his mother’s name was Maltibai. Since childhood, his life was spent in an ordinary family, during his student life he was interested in social work and subjects related to public interest. Later, along with social activities, he also established a small industry. After this he entered active politics and gradually made his mark at the national level.

After this he completed his schooling from New English School, Hubli, for higher education he did K.S. from Karnataka University, Dharwad. Took admission in Arts College, Hubli. Prahlad Joshi was elected MP for the first time in the year 2004 from Dharwad Lok Sabha seat of Karnataka. Before coming into politics, he was associated with business and social work.

On 30 May 2019, Prahlad Joshi took oath as Union Minister for the first time. At that time he was given the responsibility of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Ministry. After this, he got the responsibility of many important ministries from time to time in the Central Government. He has also handled work related to renewable energy i.e. solar and wind energy.
