The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (28 July) announced Team India for the Test series against Sri Lanka. A 2-match test series will be played between India and Sri Lanka. Before this, Team India will take part in a practice match. The series will start from 15th August. The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka for this series. So let us know how is the complete schedule of the series.
practice match before the series
BCCI said in its release that Team India, captained by Shubman Gill, will play a 4-day practice match in Colombo from August 7. After this the series will start.
The first test will be played at the Galle International Stadium in Galle. After this the second test will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
India-Sri Lanka test series schedule
First Test: 15 to 19 August (2026), Galle International Stadium, Galle
Second Test: 23 to 27 August (2026) Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo
India’s squad for test series
Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudarshan*, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah*, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain.
*Playing of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudarshan will depend on their fitness. To participate in the series, both will have to obtain fitness certificate from BCCI’s Center of Excellence.
Sri Lankan team for the series
Host Sri Lanka has not yet announced the team for the Test series. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of team the host Sri Lanka announces.
Team India had earlier played a test against Afghanistan in June. This match was not part of the World Test Championship cycle. Now the series against Sri Lanka is part of the World Test Championship cycle. By winning both the matches of the series, the Indian team will be able to move forward to make it to the final of the World Test Championship. In the last cycle, Team India did not make it to the final of the World Test Champion.
