Pope francis makes first appearance before discharge from hospital gives blessings to devotees

Pope francis health: The condition of 88 -year -old Pope Francis admitted to Jamelli Hospital in Rome remains stable. After staying in the hospital for more than five weeks, he greeted his followers from the balcony of the hospital on Sunday (March 23, 2025). This was his first live public conversation after he was hospitalized on 14 February.

In fact, on February 14, 2025, he was admitted to the hospital due to respiratory problem. They were suffering from double pneumonia (both lung infections), causing difficulty in breathing.

Health status of Pope Francis
On 28 February 2025, he suffered a serious cough tour, due to which he needed mechanical ventilation. According to his doctors, his health became more complicated due to bacteria, viruses and fungal infections. Doctor Sergio Alfiary said that it is rare to avoid such serious pneumonia and most patients are not able to come out of the hospital.

Ventilation and effects on lungs
The Pope had to resort to the ventilation mask at night, causing damage to his lungs. They will have to go through a long rehabilitation process to reinforce their respiratory muscles. Doctors confirmed that he would continue to take oral medicines for fungal infection for the next few months. Dr. Luigi Carbon said, “The position of the holy father is constantly improving, and we hope that he will be able to resume his general activities soon.”

What will happen after being discharged from the hospital?
The Pope will require at least two months of comfort and rehabilitation in the Vatican. They will get complementary oxygen and 24 -hour medical care. Special medical treatment will continue to strengthen their respiratory muscles.

Dr. Alpiery said, “When someone has double pneumonia, their lungs are damaged. The voice is also affected, but gradually it will improve.”

Will the Pope be able to handle his responsibilities again?
Vatican spokesman Mateo Bruni said that it is not clear whether the Pope will participate in the upcoming programs or not. However, Dr. Carbon hopes that the Pope may be able to travel to Türkiye for a significant global anniversary in May.

When Pope Francis blessed the devotees from the balcony of Jamelli Hospital, it was a moment of relief for Catholic followers from all over the world. Millions of his followers prayed for his fast recovery. Pope Francis said, “By the grace of God, I will soon be completely cured and will return to all of you.”
