Justice Yashwant Verma Cash Case: The Delhi High Court Judge Cash scandal has taken a significant turn. Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has sent the report of the 3 -member in House Committee to the President and the Prime Minister to investigate the case. The judge Justice Yashwant Verma is accused of keeping illegal cash, the Chief Justice has also sent his reply to the President and the Prime Minister. The Chief Justice has taken this step after discussing with all the judges of the Supreme Court.
In the opinion of experts, it seems to be the first step of starting the process of impeachment in Parliament to remove Justice Verma from the post. It had already come into the discussion that the investigation committee has confirmed the burning of cash at the judge’s house and later removed from there.
Justice Verma refuses to resign
After receiving this report on 4 May, the Chief Justice asked Justice Yashwant Verma to reply in 2 days. Justice Verma was asked to consider resigning. The way the President and the Prime Minister have been made aware of the matter by the Chief Justice, it is clear that Justice Verma has refused to resign.
On the night of 14 March, there was a fire at the official residence of Justice Verma, who has been transferred from the Delhi High Court. After this, a large amount of burnt cash was allegedly found there. Taking complete transparency in the case, Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna made all the available facts including the video of the incident public.
The investigation committee of 3 judges was formed
On March 22, Chief Justice Khanna constituted the investigation committee of 3 judges to further investigate the case. Members of this committee were- Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court GS Sandhavalia and Karnataka High Court Judge Anu Shivraman.
As soon as he started the investigation on March 25, the committee visited 30 Tughlaq Crescent i.e. Justice Verma’s government bungalow. The three judges inspected the room where there was a fire. The committee also conducted videography of the scene. The Investigation Committee spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the head of the Delhi Fire Department and the policemen present at the scene, the fire department. The committee also talked to Justice Verma’s staff, security personnel and family members.
