The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has now got a new leadership. The central government has appointed former Defense Secretary of the country Ajay Kumar as the new chairman of UPSC. The post was vacant on April 29 when Preeti Sudan’s term ended. Now after the approval of President Draupadi Murmu, Ajay Kumar will take command of this important post.
Ajay Kumar is a senior and experienced officer. He is a retired IAS officer of the 1985 batch Kerala cadre. He served the country as the Defense Secretary from 23 August 2019 to 31 October 2022. His appointment is expected to give UPSC a strong leadership. The order issued by the Ministry of Personnel said that Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission. This appointment will be either for six years or till the age of 65 years, whichever is done before.
UPSC is the most prestigious examination institution in the country, which selects officers for services like IAS, IPS, IFS. It is headed by a chairman and can have a total of 10 members. At present, the posts of two members in the commission are vacant, which are yet to be filled. Ajay Kumar’s administrative experience is quite widespread. In the Ministry of Defense, he played an important role in the country’s defense policy, arms procurement and security matters. He has been appointed at a time when interest in UPSC is increasing continuously among the youth and there is a need to make the examination process more transparent and skilled.

How much will be salary?
Talking about salary, the chairman of UPSC gets 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees a month. While other members are given 2 lakh 25 thousand salary.
