Vil sought help from the government regarding agr dues

Vodafone idea: Telecom company Vodafone Idea (VIL) is surrounded by financial troubles and has requested help from the Government of India. The company has told the Telecom Department (DOT) if the government did not help the outdoled AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) in time, it will be difficult to do business in India after March 2026.

The company may be forced to go to NCLT

The debt -ridden company has also warned the government that if the government did not help, it will have to knock the door of the National Company Law Tribunal – NCLT for bankruptcy action. On 17 April 2025, VIL CEO Akshay Mundra, in a letter to the DOT secretary, demanded help from the government.

The company has also claimed that despite the equity infusion worth Rs 26,000 crore and the government’s dues into equity, the company facing financial crisis has not got any help from the banks. Let us know that the government has the highest share in VIL. After converting the company’s arrears into equity, the government has got this part.

The government has helped as soon as possible

In a letter to the Dot Secretary, the company said that if the government did not help in the AGR case immediately, then the matter of bank funding will not proceed and the bank will not give loans to the company. The company’s functioning will come to a standstill. The company also said that if the company becomes bankrupt, not only the services of the company will be interrupted for a short time, but the government’s share of 49 percent of it can also fall to zero. Due to this, Rs 1.18 lakh crore of spectrum sales from the company will not be recovered.

Still so outstanding

In a petition filed in the Supreme Court, the company has demanded a discount of more than Rs 30,000 crore on the AGR arrears. This petition is likely to be heard on May 19. Let us know that even after converting a part of the government spectrum and AGR dues into equity, Vodafone Idea still has a huge outstanding of Rs 1.95 lakh crore.

What is AGR?

Adjustable Gross Revenue (AGR) is the use and licensing fees to be taken by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) of the Ministry of Communications from telecom companies.
