Frauds through QR Code: Be careful if you buy goods at the shop and pay with the QR code! The Rajasthan Police has issued a warning against a new way of cyber fraud. Criminals are now pasting fake QR code above the real QR code at shops and establishments, due to which the money you are giving to the shopkeeper is going directly to the account of the fraudsters.
SP Cybercrime Shantanu Kumar said that in this regard, the Cybercrime Branch of Rajasthan Police has issued advisory to the people and traders to avoid this fraud. Police say that cyber criminals are constantly changing their tricks, and this is their new way.
How is this cheating
Nowadays we pay the QR code scan from apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay at all shops. Criminals are taking advantage of this. They cleverly paste the real QR code of shopkeepers that they get from payment companies, but they have their own fake QR code.
When you send money by scanning this fake QR code after purchasing goods, that money goes directly to the bank account of the thugs instead of going to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper often comes to know when he does not get the message to get the payment, but by then the customer has gone and the money has reached the criminals.
Necessary advice of police: stay safe like this
Rajasthan Police has told some easy and important things to both the shopkeepers and the general public to avoid this fraud:
• Keep the QR code in a safe place: Put the QR code of your shop in a place where no one can easily change it or stick something on it.
• Remove at night: If possible, keep the QR code safe while closing the shop at night.
• Regular checking: Carefully look at your QR code, check that there is no other QR code on it.
• Check as soon as the payment is made: After the payment comes, check on your phone or in the bank account immediately whether the money has come.
