The iconic rivalry between India and England will now be known as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The series is named after England veteran fast bowler James Anderson and India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar. This series will be known as Anderson-Tendulkar Series.
The upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Before the final, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have taken this decision.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the official launch of the trophy, Tendulkar and Anderson themselves will make the Lord’s at Lord’s during the WTC final starting on June 11. This step has been taken at a time when the two countries are preparing to start the new WTC Chakra with a series of five Test matches starting from June 20 in the headingley of Leeds.
James Anderson retired in July 2024 as the most successful fast bowler with 188 matches in Test history. Tendulkar, who is considered one of the greatest batsmen, retired in 2013 after 200 Tests. Both played international cricket for a long time and made the Test format exciting with their game.
Till now India and England used to play for different trophies on the basis of host country. The Pataudi Trophy was given in England, named former India captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. In India, this series was played for the Anthony de Melo Trophy, named after the founder of Indian Cricket Administration.
The trend of changing name has started recently in Test cricket, in which great players are honored and continuity of the series is made. In November 2024, the Crow-Thorape Trophy was launched for the England-New Zealand Test. The name was named after New Zealand’s Martin Crowe and Graham Thorpe of England. Border-Gavaskar Trophy is played between India-Australia .
Sachin Tendulkar scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests with the help of 51 centuries and 68 half -centuries. His Test career ran from 1989 to 2013.
Between 2003 and 2024, James Anderson took 704 wickets in 188 Tests. During this, he did the feat of taking five wickets in an innings 32 times. He is the highest wicket -taking fast bowler in Tests.
