Up marriage registration rules: In Uttar Pradesh, it will not be easy to marry secretly without the consent of the family and register it. In compliance with the order of the Allahabad High Court, IG Registration has issued new interim guidelines regarding marriage registration.
Earlier, registration was allowed on the basis of marriage venue, which many times complaints of fake or forced marriages were reported. According to the government, this amendment is a decisive step towards preventing those frauds. Now the legal status of marriage will not be available without proof and testimony. AIG Stamp Pushpendra Kumar informed that the mandate was issued on Friday evening and this rule has come under effect since Saturday.
Pandit’s oral testimony and affidavit mandatory
Now only the photo or invitation card of marriage will not be considered sufficient as proof of marriage. The oral testimony and affidavit of the priest or Pandit who conducts marriage has been made mandatory. At the time of registration, the Pandit will have to appear physically and he will have to present his name, address, copy of Aadhaar card, valid identity card, mobile number and passport size photo.
It will now be necessary to keep every marriage record
A register will be placed in every marriage registration office in which a record of every month recorded will be prepared in which it will be mandatory to provide all the information. This record will be required to be certified by the Assistant Inspector General. The aim of the new guidelines is to make the marriage registration process transparent, ensure family consent and eliminate the possibility of fraud. This is also likely to stop child marriage, forced marriage and other social problems.
