It is a kind of waiting period that usually starts after the death or divorce of the husband and in both cases the days of Iddat vary. If the husband of a Muslim woman dies, then he has to perform a period of Iddat for 4 months and 10 days. This period in divorce is of three months. During the period of this Iddat, husband and wife sleep in a room for 30 days despite divorce.
What is the 30 -day rule?
After divorce between husband and wife in Islam, the wife has to follow the period of Iddat. This period is of three months and during this time a woman cannot have a relationship with any other man nor can marry. Marriage done without completing the period of Iddat is also considered illegal. During this period, husband and wife are advised to stay together for 30 days. However, this is a social rule, which is not mandatory. Its purpose is to give husband and wife a chance to resume their relationship. Both can be reconciled during a period of 30 days.
Why is it necessary?
Following the period of Iddat is also done to ensure that a woman is not pregnant. It is known during this period and until the woman does not give birth to the child, she cannot marry another. At the same time, such a woman has to complete the duration of Iddat after the birth of the child.
