The team will play a 5 -match Test series on the tour of England, in which Gill & Team will have many challenges and also pressure because the team has not won any Test series in England since 2007. Gill told in an interview before the series started, what he has learned from Virat Kohli and Rohit as a captain.
Shubman Gill told in an interview to Sky Sports, what kind of atmosphere he wants to create in the team. He said about becoming a captain that when I was learning cricket, I thought of playing for India only. Never thought I would captain it.
Shubman Gill wants to give such an environment to the players
The former Indian cricketer interviewed Dinesh Karthik, in which he first asked where do you want to take the team as a captain? A special trophy, or a special goal you have set?
To this, Shubman Gill said, “Apart from the trophy, I want to create such an atmosphere, culture inside the team, where everyone feels safe and happy. It can be difficult to make such an environment, because we play so many matches, are separate squads. But if I can do it, I will do it, this is my goal.”
On the question by Karthik on his father’s reaction, Gill said, “He probably did not think that I would become a captain, even I did not think. When I was younger, I wanted to play only for the country, to perform for the country and win the match, I did not think that I would become a captain.”
What did you learn from Rohit-Virat?
Dinesh Karthik asked that you played with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli. What did you learn from him as a leader? To this Gill said, “When I played in Virat Bhai’s company, in Test, his idea, his idea, his thinking, these were the things that I liked and I learned. If he did not work, he would have prepared another plan with him. He used to talk to the bowlers. What he wanted from them.
Speaking about Rohit Sharma, Gill said, “He had maintained such an atmosphere inside the team that even if he abuses you, then you will not keep him on the heart.”
