Maharashtra Local Body Election: Shiv Sena (UBT) has started preparing for the local body elections to be held in Maharashtra this year. Party chief Uddhav Thackeray held an important meeting with the district heads of his party today (June 20). In this meeting, preparations for the elections of 29 metropolitancisions, 32 district councils, 336 panchayat committees and 248 city councils were discussed. In the meeting, Thackeray instructed the district units to activate the workers at the ground level and get involved in the election preparations.
Ward delimitation before elections- Anil Parab
Senior party leader and former minister Anil Parb told PTI that Uddhavji has asked all the district presidents to keep a close watch on the voter list amendment and the process of demarcation of wards. According to Parab, “Ward delimitation is an important phase before the elections and the party does not want any disturbance or the strategy benefiting the BJP to be applicable in it.” Not only the district president but also the head of the contact and other district level officials attended the meeting.
There is no need to fear BJP- Vinayak Raut
Senior party leader and former MP Vinayak Raut said that the party workers have a feeling that Shiv Sena (UBT) should fight alone in the local body elections, but the final decision will be taken by Uddhav Thackeray. He said that in the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray has allowed district leaders to take decisions to form an alliance with equal ideology parties at the local level. Also clarified that “there is no need to be afraid of BJP, but do not take any step that benefits BJP or its allies. We can beat them.”
Earlier in the day, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), Sharad Pawar indicated that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) – including NCP (SP), Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) – can consider contesting local elections together. Although the inner meetings of the Shiv Sena (UBT) indicate that the party is currently giving priority to the option of fighting alone, the final decision will be taken with the possibilities of alliance at the strategic level.
