India tea exporter: According to the latest data released by the Tea Board of India, India exported 255 million kg of tea in 2024. With this, India has become the second largest tea exporting country in the world. In this sequence, Kenya has retained her top position. Despite the uncertainty in the global market due to geopolitical tension, India’s tea exports reached 255 million kg in 2024, the highest level in 10 years. In 2024, the country’s exports recorded a strong increase of 10 percent from the same figure of 231.69 million kg recorded in 2023.
Entered many markets in West Asia
The price of India’s exports increased by 15 percent from Rs 6,161 crore in 2023 to Rs 7,111 crore in 2024. He said that the shipment sent to Iraq has increased strongly, which is 20 percent of tea exports. With this, traders are expected to send 40-50 million kilograms of tea to the West Asian country in this financial year. He said that Indian exporters, who entered many markets in West Asia when the Sri Lankan crop was reduced, managed to maintain the amount of shipments there.
America and UK are its major markets
India exports tea to more than 25 countries, with UAE, Iraq, Iran, Russia, America and UK its major markets. India is one of the top five tea exporters in the world, which is about 10 percent of the total world exports. India’s Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri tea are considered one of the best tea in the world. Most of the tea exported from India is ‘black tea’ (black tea), which makes about 96 percent of the total exports.
Tea (regular tea), green tea, herbal tea, masala tea
Other varieties include regular tea (regular tea), green tea, herbal tea, masala tea and lemon tea (lemon tea). India has taken several steps to promote tea production, create a specific brand for Indian tea and ensure the welfare of families associated with the tea industry. The Assam Valley and Cachar are two tea productive areas of Assam. In West Bengal, Doers, Terai and Darjeeling are the three major tea producing areas.
Major producing states Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka
The southern part of India produces about 17 percent of the total production of the country, with the major producing states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The ‘small tea producers’ are also contributing about 52 percent to the total production. Currently, about 2.30 lakh small tea producers are present in the supply chain. The Government of India has taken several steps to benefit the region through the tea board. These include the formation of 352 Self -Help Group (SHG), 440 farmer producing organizations (FPOs) and 17 farmer producing companies (FPCs).
Mini tea factories have also been installed
Negotiations are also held with STGs for quality plucking, capacity building and crop management. In addition, assistance has been provided for the procurement of pruning machines and mechanical harvester. Mini tea factories have also been set up to encourage entrepreneurs and unemployed youth. 1.16 million employees are directly employed in the Indian tea industry and the same number of people are indirectly connected to it.
