Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a tough stand on the issue of water. He also said on the second day of the special session of the Punjab Assembly that Punjab does not have a single drop of excess water to give it to any other state. He said that water is an emotional issue for Punjab and its people and his government is committed to protect every precious water source of the state.

The Chief Minister opposed the deployment of CISF at Bhakra-Nangal Dam and said that the story of Punjab’s water dispute begins in 1955, but the irony is that it has not been re-evaluated from time to time, whereas it should have happened every 25 years.

Bhagwant Mann made this demand from the Government of India
Chief Minister Mann said that Punjab can get a good opportunity for the Western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chiinab, Uj, Ujj, Rivers of Kashmir) recently by the decision of the Government of India to postpone Indus Water Treaty. According to PTI, he said that it can provide Punjab to 23 million acres more water, which can fulfill the water needs of the state and farmers. The Chief Minister demanded that water of western rivers be given to Punjab on priority basis and new reservoirs should be constructed above Bhakra and Pong Dam in Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab has highly exploited natural wealth like water and land to make the country self -sufficient in food grains, so now the state should get proper compensation for this. He accused the opposition parties that they have been participating in robbing the water resources of Punjab and have been misleading the public on this emotional issue for the last 6 decades. Mann attacked the opposition and said that some leaders themselves have been involved in the foundation of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and are now confusing the public.

Pratap Singh Bajwa has no knowledge of Punjabi language- CM
Mann taunted Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa and said that he does not even have knowledge of Punjabi language and Congress leaders should make excuses to avoid being exposed to the public. The Chief Minister said that this house belongs to 3.5 crore people of Punjab and only the person can serve them which they choose.

He accused both the Congress and the BJP of dividing the country on linguistic, communal and regional grounds and said that if these parties leave their divisive politics, the country can touch new heights in every field.
