Delhi high court: More than four years have passed, but pictures of that day of violence at Jamia Millia Islamia University did not blur even today. What happened that night in the ongoing demonstration against CAA and NRC, he had shocked not only the students but the whole country. Now the Delhi High Court has again knocked on the judicial investigation of the same incident. On behalf of the petitioner, it has been requested by the court to conduct a fair investigation in the case.

94 complaints, but not a single FIR

The petition said that the university administration itself termed the police action inappropriate. The Vice Chancellor strongly condemned the attack and handed over 94 complaints to the police. In these complaints, it was alleged that the police entered the library and hostels and beat the students. Despite this, no FIR was registered on these complaints. The question is that when complaints are filed, then why did not take action?

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the police not only lathi -charged the students, but also broke the CCTV cameras installed in the campus, so that evidence of violence could be erased. Many of the 28 students injured in the incident had to be admitted to the ICU. But till now no responsible has been brought into the dock.

The petitioner demands that the matter be investigated by an independent SIT of officers outside the state. The lawyer argued that when the allegations are on the police themselves, how can it be justified by the same police to investigate? In such cases, independent and fair investigation is the only way.

The Delhi High Court raised serious questions during the hearing. The court said that the biggest issue is how to decide whether the performance of that day was peaceful or not. The court also said that the complaint of Section 156 (3) given by Jamia has already been rejected and that decision was not challenged. In such a situation, what is new in the petition presented before the court?

The date of April 24 will be fixed, the hearing will be held again

The court has currently fixed the date of April 24 for the next hearing of the case. Now it has to be seen whether the court goes in favor of independent investigation or rejects the petition on the basis of old orders.

Jamia Milia at the center of dispute

Jamia’s campus CAA and NRC became the largest center of opposition in 2019. Thousands of students participated in the protests. On 15 December 2019, the situation became uncontrollable after a clash between the police and the protesters. The police were accused that he sneaked into the campus without permission and vandalized the students. At the same time, the police claimed that the protest had become fierce, so action had to be taken.
