A school in Kollam district of Kerala has changed the way of studies. A way that no child will consider himself behind. There is no “backbenchar” here now, because all children now sit in the front line. This change has come not by any government order, but inspired by the scene of a film. A small scene of the Malayalam film “Surround Srikutton” has made a big impact in schools. In the film, a student was shown sitting back and feeling neglected and he suggested a new idea. An idea that forced many schools to think even in real life.
Now every child is first bent, the film has seen the idea
Ram Vilasom Vocational Higher Secondary School (RVHSS), located in Valkom area of Kollam district, has implemented a new system of seating in its classrooms. Now students do not sit in the traditional lines behind one. Rather, the desks are kept on the four walls of the classroom in such a way that every child should be seen in front and everyone gets equal attention of the teacher. With this, no child considers himself behind and everyone gets the same chance to learn.
The change was started from the following primary classes of the school, but it was so much liked that now this model has reached eight more schools in Kerala and one school in Punjab. The special thing is that the principal of that school in Punjab saw the film on OTT, showed the children in the school and then adopted the same layout.
The film affects people
The film’s director Vinesh Vishwanathan says that this idea was not completely imaginary. It was inspired by the real teaching methods seen during the District Primary Education Program (DPEP) of many years ago. He told how a small scene in which a child says that he did not like to sit back and made such a profound effect that real schools started adopting it. This model enhances the confidence of the students, makes them feel equal and converts the class to an associate environment. Now all the children can see each other, teachers can also keep an eye on everyone and interaction and participation in class is also more.
