Rahul gandhi defamation case: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in the MP-MLA court in Lucknow on Tuesday. The surrender was done under a defamation case filed in connection with the alleged defamatory remarks allegedly made on the Indian Army. Soon after the surrender in the court, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer filed a bail petition, which was approved by the court and he was granted bail.

Controversial statement was given during India’s journey
The whole matter is on 16 December 2022, when Rahul Gandhi, while referring to the clash of the Galwan Valley in a conversation with the media during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, said that, “Chinese soldiers are killing our soldiers, but the media does not question them.” This statement was described as abusive to the army.

Army official answer
The Indian Army had issued a statement on 12 December to make it clear that the Chinese Army had attempted to infiltrate the Indian border, which the Indian Army responded strongly. After this, the Chinese soldiers returned and both sides suffered minor injuries in the clash.

Retired officer filed a complaint

Retired director of Border Roads Organization (BRO) Uday Shankar Srivastava filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the court regarding this statement given on the army. It has been said in the complaint that Rahul Gandhi has deliberately made false and defamable statements with the aim of tarnishing the image of the Indian Army.

The court summoned Rahul as accused

The MP-MLA court of Lucknow summoned Rahul Gandhi as an accused in the case. On Tuesday, he surrendered before the court and got bail. Now the date of the next hearing of this case will be determined by the court, in which the arguments of the parties will be heard.
