The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully tested the ‘Expected Trajectory Long Duration Hypersonic Cruise Missile (ET-LDHCM)’. This missile can fly eight times faster than the speed of sound i.e. Mac 8 speed and target enemy’s bases up to 1,500 km away.

The existing Indian missiles like BrahMos, Agni and Akash are more advanced and powerful than the system. It is equipped with scumjet engine technology, which uses oxygen of the atmosphere without a traditional compressor. Its speed is three times more than BrahMos (Mac 3). It can withstand temperatures ranging from 2,000 ° C and is capable of carrying traditional and nuclear weapons from 1,000 to 2,000 kg.
What is the specialty of ET-LDHCM?
The ET-LDHCM can be launched from the ground, air and sea, all three. It has the ability to avoid radar and change the goal and change direction, which also makes it a challenge for modern defense shields like S-500 and Iron Dome.
With the testing of this missile, India has now joined the queue of countries like America, Russia and China, which have indigenous hypersonic missile technology. It takes India’s strategic strength to new heights and is considered to be important in response to China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific sector.
