The actor became a leader and Makkal Nidhi Mayyam Party (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan is scheduled to take oath as a Rajya Sabha MP in Delhi. Speaking to the media in Chennai on Thursday (July 24, 2025), he said that I will take oath in Delhi today and register my name. Being an Indian, I will perform all my duties with this honor.

This is an important political achievement for 69 -year -old Kamal Haasan, who established his party in 2017, focusing on fighting corruption, focusing on rural development and environmental stability. Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Nidhi Mayyam Party secured nearly 4 percent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and also contested the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2021. Kamal Haasan lost in Coimbatore South seat by a slight margin of BJP’s Vinathi Srinivasan.

Rajya Sabha seat reward from DMK
Although MNM decided to stay away from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it supported the ruling DMK. In lieu of this support, now Kamal Haasan has been given a Rajya Sabha seat by DMK. He has described this change as the demand of time.

Tamil Nadu assembly election became interesting
It was only after Kamal Haasan’s suggestion that DMK introduced direct profit transfer (DBT) for women. Under this, a scheme to provide monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to eligible women families was started. In such a situation, when Haasan has officially joined the DMK, it is expected to contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections of 2026 under the DMK alliance led by MNM.
