After the death of seven children after the roof collapsed in a government school in Jhalawar in Rajasthan, a report has revealed that 2,710 school buildings in the state need a large scale repair and a sum of Rs 254 crore allocated for it is pending for approval from the Finance Department.

According to the report of the State Education Department, 710 school buildings have been marked as a need for mass repair in 2024-25 financial year and Rs 79.24 crore has been fixed for their renewal.

Budget announcement

In the current financial year, 2,000 more such more unsafe schools have been listed, for which a separate budget of Rs 174.97 crore has been announced for repair.

However, the report states that most of the funds have not been approved by the Finance Department yet, which raises serious questions on administrative delay and budget execution.

The report has shown that 83 building structures in Jhalawar district were identified in the risk evaluation of 2024-25 and 2025-26 of the Education Department.
