Pension and facilities after retirement
While in the post of governor, they get a lot of facilities and good salary, but when they retire, they neither get any government accommodation nor any facility like pension or allowance. In the event of health deteriorating health, the government bears their entire expenses, but apart from this, whatever expenses they have to do, they have to spend themselves. According to the 1982 Act, there is no provision to give pension to the governors.
Why Governor does not get pension and facilities
On 10 December 2012, the then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde introduced The Governors Amament Bill in the Lok Sabha. In this, a provision was made to give Rs 1,10,000 per month to the Governor for some facilities, while the former Governor was considered entitled only for medical facilities. In this bill, a provision was made to give an office assistant to the Governor, whose salary is 25 thousand rupees a month.
In the year 2008, the Central Government had tried to give pension to the governors, but it could not move further and the matter was stalled there.
