Now the truth of this viral news has been exposed by PIB Fact Check. PIB has shared the screenshot of this letter through its official X (Twitter) account. FAKE is clearly written along with it. This means that this news is completely baseless. The caption accompanying this post reads, ‘A layer in the name of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going viral on the internet. It has been claimed that to get the pending amount of Rs 1,00,000, a refundable tax of Rs 7,500 will have to be paid.

It is further written, ‘According to PIB fact check, this letter is fake. RBI never contacts the general public through unsolicited phone calls or emails to ask for money or any kind of personal information. If you are a victim of such scams, lodge your complaint with local law enforcement agencies (police).
