As the income of the people has increased, the prices of things have also gone up.
Price of 10 grams of gold less than 100 rupees
There was a time of 1947 when the price of 10 grams of gold used to be around 88 rupees. Today, gold has gone beyond 1 lakh rupees. After the country became independent, gold imports to handle both economy and foreign exchange reserves gradually started decreasing. This affected both supply and demand. In the 1990s, the changes in economic liberalization, inflation and demand pattern led to fluctuations in gold prices. Apart from this, prices were also affected due to geopolitical stress and currency valuations.
Flight tickets also less than Rs 200
You will be surprised to know that the price of petrol was only 27 paise per liter in those days. The fare for flight from Delhi to Mumbai used to be around Rs 140. During that time Air India was the only airline that started its services since 1936, with just one route. Now you can guess how much things have changed in these 79 years.
