The recent reports claimed that the new Test captain Shubman Gill, who performed brilliantly on the tour of England, could also be given the command of T20, but the latest news from a BCCI source is putting an end to this.
According to a report by the Times of India, the current T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav will be seen captaining Team India in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 9 to 28 September. The 34 -year -old Surya is currently in rehab after hernia surgery at BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE) and will go from Bangalore to Mumbai to attend the selection committee meeting on August 19.
According to the report, Surya’s presence in the selection meeting is a clear indication that he will continue the captaincy and the rumors of giving Gill the command of T20 format are proving to be baseless.
Some big names will not be included
BCCI sources have been quoted as saying that Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer will not be selected for the Asia Cup. The selectors have advised Jaiswal to focus on red-ball cricket.
According to the team management plan, India can take the field with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in this tournament. At the same time, Shubman Gill has to struggle to make a place in the current T20 squad.
