The world’s first passenger train launched in England on 27 September 1825. The train was launched between Stockton and Darlington and its name was Locomon Number 1. The train was designed by famous engineer George Stephenson and was built by Robert Stephenson & Company. This train used to run with steam engine and started a new chapter in the history of public transport.

This train covered a distance of 12 miles from Stockton to Darlington. There were 450 to 600 passengers in this train and the speed was 15 miles per hour. Before running the train, it was brought on the track with the help of ropes and horses. This historic journey started between 7 am and 8 am and thousands of people gathered to see it.

Talking about the first train in India, on April 16, 1853, the first passenger train was run from Mumbai to Thane. The name of this train was Deccan Queen and it was taken by three steam engines Sahib, Sultan, and Sindh. It was a distance of 34 kilometers in 57 minutes. There were 14 coaches in this train with 400 passengers. After the first passenger train, the rail network in India gradually increased.
