US President Donald Trump said that Chicago could be the next city where the federal government can take action to stop the crime. Earlier, the government has been taking similar action in Washington for a few days. Talking to reporters at the White House Oval Office, Trump claimed that Washington DC “is one of the safest cities in the world” while talking to reporters at the White House Oval Office. He also indicated that his administration will also turn to other cities to deal with crime, homeless, and illegal stay.
The President said, “After this Chicago will be our next city. When Trump announced at a press conference at the White House on August 11 that he was deploying national guards to help in restoring law and order and public security in Washington, he described Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore and Auckland as a disturbed city. A release issued to said that more than 1,900 soldiers have been called from several states including West Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Ohio, Louisiana and Tennessi National Guard under this mission.
Trump meets National Guard soldiers
Trump met Law Enforcement Officers and National Guard personnel in South-Eastern Washington on Thursday (21 August 2025) and reiterated his resolve to launch a similar crime repression campaign in other cities. CNN quoted an US defense officer on Friday as saying that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the members of the National Guard patrolling the streets of Washington to keep their service weapons. This instruction of Hegseth is different from the previous guidelines of the Pentagon. The Pentagon had earlier said that if the situation is needed, weapons can be given to the members of the National Guard.
On 11 August 2025, President Donald Trump declared the crime emergency, calling the crime “out of control” in Washington DC. In response, Bosar said that the crime has not only come down from 2023, but has been less than 2019, and said that we are at a 30 -year low in terms of violent crime.
