Russia is the largest country in the world which is spread over two continents Europe and Asia. Geographically, the Ural Mountains and the Ural river set the boundary line of both these continents. This is the reason why Russia is called an intercontinental nation. Although most of the territory of Russia falls in Asia, most of the population lives in Europe. The capital Moscow is located in the European part itself.
Major cities of Russia settled in Europe
The western part of Russia falls in Europe and the country’s largest and densely populated cities are inhabited by them-
- Moscow Moscow is the capital of Russia and the second largest city in Europe.
- St. Petersburg. It is a historical and cultural center of Russia which is inhabited in Europe. Apart from these, Nijhani Novgorod, Kazan and Rostov on Don also come to Europe. This region is considered to be the political, cultural and economic center of Russia.
Russia cities settled in Asia
As soon as the Asian part of Russia starts on the Ural mountain, which is usually called Siberia. The population here is low but the area is very spacious. The city of Russia in Austia is Novosibirsk, Omsk, Samara, Vladivostok, Irkutsk. The city is the hallmark of the Asian part of Russia and is quite different from European Russia in geography, culture and tradition.
Cities settled on the border
There are also some cities that are situated around the border of Europe and Asia i.e. Ural Mountains. For example, Yakaterinburgh, Chelyabbin, the city is called a city inhabited between two continents. Because their geographical location connects both parts. In this way, Russia’s face is divided into two parts. European Russia has a large and modern city while Asian Russia is known for its vast territory, cold weather and natural resources. This is the reason why Russia is considered an important part of not only Asia but also of Europe.
