The US Trump administration on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) has reduced the tariff to 50 percent on Indian exports. He says that this step has been taken in view of the fine on India for the purchase of Russian crude oil. US officials say that India is promoting Ukraine war by purchasing oil from Russia at cheaper rates.
Surprisingly, the Ukraine in which Donald Trump is pressurizing the Government of India, has refused to put pressure on India for the purchase of Russian oil. The Ukraine ambassador to India has revealed this himself. He has accepted the sovereignty of India.
‘Kiev is not pressurizing New Delhi’
In an interview to The print in New Delhi, Ukrainian Ambassador Olexander Polishchuk said that Ukraine understands that India is a sovereign country and will have to protect its national interests in terms of Russian oil procurement. He said that Kiev is not pressurizing New Delhi to purchase crude oil from Moscow. Any issue can be discussed bilaterally and it can also be resolved.
India is a sovereign country- Polishchuk
Polishchuk said during this time that it is not easy to say how India should behave. We are not putting pressure on the Government of India. India is a sovereign country and you will definitely have to protect your national interests, but Ukraine and we also have to protect our national interests.
Jailonski can come to India
He said that I am personally happy that such a regular dialogue happens between our leaders. Ukraine President Volodimir Jailonsky may soon visit India amid tension with the US. Polishchuk had told the news agency ANI that there is a discussion between the two countries on the date of the tour.
