Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 4 wickets in the first T20 match. This victory just before the Asia Cup is going to boost the morale of the Sri Lankan team. In this match, Zimbabwe scored 175 runs while playing first. Sri Lanka won with 4 wickets remaining in the match which lasted till the last over. Opener Pathum Nisanka played a blistering innings of 55 runs, the rest of the work was done by Kamindu Mendis in the death overs, who scored 41 runs in a stormy style.
For Zimbabwe, Brian Bennett played an innings of 81 runs to take his team to a score of 175, but his innings went in vain. Sri Lanka, who came to chase the target of 176 runs, had a great start as Pathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis carried forward the scoreboard with a run-rate of about 10. There was a 96 -run salute partnership between the two. Mendis contributed 38 runs and Nisanka contributed 55 runs.
In the last 5 overs, Sri Lanka had to score 58 runs to win, which he made in 25 balls. In particular, Kamindu Mendis broke havoc on the opposition bowlers and scored 41 runs in just 16 balls. In this cameo innings, he hit a four and 4 sixes.
Sri Lanka has also won ODI series
Before the T20 series, the Sri Lankan team has also waved in the ODI series. In the 3-match ODI series, Sri Lanka made a clean sweep to Zimbabwe 3–0 at his house. Especially Pathum Nisanka is running in a spectacular form, who had grinded 198 runs in just 2 innings of the ODI series. Now in the first T20 match, he has also hit Pachasa. Nisanka has definitely hit at least fifty in the three innings played on Zimbabwe tour.
