Afghanistan made a great start of its campaign in the Asia Cup 2025. The team crushed Hong Kong by 94 runs in the inaugural match played on Tuesday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. This was the third biggest win in terms of runs in the T20 format’s Asia Cup.
Afghanistan, batting first, scored 188 runs losing six wickets. In response, Hong Kong team could score only 94 runs after losing nine wickets in the scheduled overs.
Pakistan has the record for the biggest win in terms of runs in the Asia Cup, which won by 155 runs against Hong Kong in Sharjah in 2022.
The second position in this list is the Indian team, who won 101 runs against Afghanistan in 2022 on the Dubai ground.
The UAE team defeated Oman by 71 runs in 2016. This team is ranked fourth in the list, while Afghanistan’s team, which defeated Hong Kong by 66 runs in 2016, is also in fifth place.
Talking about this match played on 9 September at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Sedikullah Atal played an unbeaten innings of 73 runs in 52 balls for Afghanistan with the help of three sixes and six fours.
Apart from these, Mohammad Nabi added 33, while Ajmatullah Omrajai added 53 runs to the team’s account. Ayush Shukla and Kidhi Shah took two wickets each from the opposition camp.
In response, Hong Kong could score only 94 runs after a bad start. Apart from Babur Hayat (39) and captain Yasim Murtaza (16), no other batsman could touch the double figure. For Afghanistan, Fazalhak Farooqui and Gulbadin Naib took two wickets each.
