The Elphinstone Road overbridge (ROB), more than 100 years old in Mumbai, started to be demolished from 12 September evening. This was the bridge connecting the British period Parel and Prabhadevi.
A new double-dekar bridge will be built under the Sevari-Elevated Elevated Connector Project by breaking it. This is a major change for Mumbai, which will improve pre-west contact and reduce traffic pressure.
What is the reason for the bridge breaking?
The Mumbai Traffic Police released the official information to shut down the Elphinstone ROB on 11 September and also published an alternative traffic plan. Earlier it was prepared to shut down from April 25, but the decision was postponed in view of traffic jams and inconvenience.
Traffic police set new routes
Dadar, Lower Parel, Curry Road and Bharatmata areas are going to be affected. At the same time, the purpose of this scheme is also being told in the interest of the people. Along with increasing security as well as reducing congestion, it is one of the goals of building this bridge.

Features of new double-dekar bridge
The old Elphinstone Rob was just 13 meters wide and in both directions, there was barely one and a half-and-a-half-lane traffic. Mumbai’s connectivity will be modern and fast after the new double-Dekar Bridge is built. First Level-2+2 lane between Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Senapati Bapat Road, second Level-Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (Atal Setu) to Bandra-Verli Sea Link 2+2 lanes. New bridge will bring an important change in the city’s traffic network
Sevari-Verley Connector Project and Mumbai’s future
This bridge will be prepared under 4.5 km long Sevari-Worli elevated connector. This link will connect MTHL to BWSL, which will speed up traffic on the coastal route of northern and southern parts of Mumbai. According to PTI, this new double-decker structure is being considered a major step towards development and convenience in the city. Western and eastern Mumbai will have direct contact. The journey will save both time and fuel and an angle is also being seen to give modern form to the coastal routes of Mumbai.
