The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken an important step towards medical education in Bihar and has given 430 additional MBBS seats to the state for the academic session 2025-26. This decision will make it easier for thousands of students to become doctors and they will get more opportunities.
According to the information received from the Health Department, NMC has sent information about the allocation of these seats to the state government. However, this time only Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences i.e. IGIMS has been given additional seats in government colleges. This institute in Patna has got 30 new seats. Now a total of 150 students will get admission here instead of earlier 120 seats.
Seats have also expanded in private medical colleges. Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital has been approved by 50 new seats, due to which the total seats there have increased to 150. Madhubani Medical College and Hospital has got 100 additional seats, while Himalaya Medical College has got the benefit of growth of 50 seats. Increased seats in these institutions will not only help local students but more students from outside the state will be able to enroll here.
Not only this, NMC has also allowed to open two new medical colleges and hospitals in the state. The first college will start as Shyamlal Chandrashekhar Medical College and Shaheed Prabhunarayan Multi Specialty Hospital in Parmanandpur in Khagaria district, where nomination has been allowed on 100 MBBS seats. The second college will start as Mahabodhi Medical College and Hospital in Mahabodhinagar, Gopalpur Sherghati in Gaya district and there will be admission in 100 seats here.
So much seats will increase
After the new decision, MBBS will have a total of 1420 seats in government medical colleges in the state. At the same time, seats in private medical colleges have increased to 1750. In this way, enrollment in 3170 seats in total will be possible. This decision of NMC is a big relief for those students who sit in the medical entrance examination NEET every year, but due to limited seats, the dream of becoming a doctor remains incomplete. With increasing seats, now more students will get a chance to enter this profession.
Positive effects on health services also
Experts believe that the beginning of additional seats and new colleges will also have a positive impact on the health services of the state. In future, a large number of doctors will come out from here, who will help in providing health facilities in rural and remote areas also.
