The Delhi High Court has prohibited the outbreak of victory by the candidates who were declared victorious in the DUSU (Delhi University Students Union) elections. The court said that no victory procession will be taken out in the campus, hostel or any area of the city. Elections for the Central Panel in DU on 18 September are to be held. There is a close fight between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Student Union of India (NSUI). ASAP, the student unit of the Aam Aadmi Party, did not field candidates for the central panel this year.
High court gave ‘warning’
A bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said that the court is not interfering in the election, but if the elections are not held in satisfactory order, then the functioning of DUSU officials can be stopped. The bench said, “We are not interfering in the elections, but if the elections are not held in satisfactory order, then we can stop the functioning of the officials.”
High court gave these instructions to Delhi Police
The bench directed the Delhi Police, DU officials and civil administration to take all possible and acceptable steps to prevent any untoward incident during the DUSU elections and ensure that there is no violation of the rules during elections.
Actually, it has been seen that after the election results, the candidates and their supporters take out a rally or procession on a large scale. These rallies include many vehicles. Fireworks and slogans are also seen. ‘Money-Masal’ has been a big issue in the Delhi Students Union elections.
