The list shows that there has been a strong jump of about 200 percent in the number of millionaire families of India. This number may increase further further.
How many rich families are there in India right now?
India currently has 8,71,700 millionaire families with total assets more than 8.5 crore ($ 1 million), which is almost doubled from 4,58,000 millionaire families in 2021. Their participation in all other families in the country is 0.31 percent. The report has also revealed that by 2017-2025, the number of families with million-dollars has increased by 45. However, so far only a few have reached the category of Ultra-Rich. In the last four-five years, there has been a jump of about 90 percent in the number of Millionaire Households in India. If this speed continues, then the number of millionaire families in India can reach 20 lakhs.
An Indian family became a millionaire every 30 minutes
According to Hurun India report, every 30 minutes between 2021-2025, an Indian family joined the Millenniere Gharana i.e. whose assets are 8.5 crore or more. Between 2021 and 2025, the Nifty 50 index increased by about 70 percent. During this time, the prices of gold also doubled.

Shares, real estate and gold in India still remain a better investment option. People are investing in large quantities on these. In this era of digitization, now people have started using UPI apps more instead of cards and cash for the payment of luxury items. According to Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025, most millionaires in the country live in Mumbai. Maharashtra has 1,78,600 millionaire families, out of which Mumbai leads Mumbai with 1,42,000 millionaire families. Since 2021, there was a great bounce of 194 percent at Millionaire Household in Maharashtra. Its GSDP also increased by 55 percent to 40.5 lakh crore ($ 480 billion). Delhi and Tamil Nadu also have a good GDP growth.
After Mumbai, Delhi is second with 68,200 millionaire families and Bangalore is third with 31,600 millionaire families. Overall, 79 percent of the country’s millionaires live in ten major states of the country. According to the report of the world’s wealthiest cities released in June, Bangalore finished third in the last 10 years with a 120 percent gain in the number of millionaires. Delhi and Mumbai also saw an increase of 82 percent and 69 percent respectively.
