Zubeen Garg was born in a Assamese Brahmin family in Tura, Meghalaya. The singer’s parents named him after the famous musician Zubin Mehta. Singer’s father Mohini Borathhakur was a magistrate and his mother Ily Borathhakur, a singer. Therefore, Zubin got the first education of singing from her mother. Zubeen started singing at the age of just three. Singer also learned tabla from Pandit Robin Banerjee for 11 years. Then Guru Ramani Rai took him education of Assamese folk music.

Zubeen’s real name was Zubin Borthakur. But in the 90s, he changed it and kept his surname Garg. Zubeen got recognition in Bollywood by singing the song ‘or Ali’ from the 2006 film Gangster. After this, he gave his voice to the songs of films like ‘Dawn’ and ‘Kya Raj Hai’. Zubeen has sung songs in more than 40 languages and dialects, including Bengali, not only Assam or Bollywood. He has been the highest -grossing singer of Assam for many years.
