E-commerce business: The government is constantly trying to promote foreign investment. In this sequence, preparations are also in full swing to relax the rules of foreign investment. Due to this, foreign e-commerce companies will get the facility to directly buy goods from Indian vendors and sell them to foreign customers. With this move of the government, e-commerce companies like Amazon will be able to buy the same from domestic vendors and sell it in foreign markets.
Currently, foreign e-commerce companies in India can only act as a marketplace. They can earn from commission by adding buyers and vendors. India does not allow any foreign e-commerce platforms to sell goods directly to consumers in the domestic and international markets.
According to the report, this ban has been a cause of dispute between India and the US for many years. Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce platform, has been demanding relief in this rule for a long time. There is talk of change in rules at a time when talks have been going on between India and America for a long time. However, many business groups have objected to such proposals of the government. He says that big foreign companies may be a threat to their business.
Small businessmen have problems
According to the report, due to complex documentation process, difficult regulations, India’s less than 10 percent of small businesses, which are domestically online sellers, are unable to export their goods through e-commerce in global markets. The rules that the government has proposed is like a third party export model, which will comply with the export of a dedicated unit related to the e-commerce platform. Last year, Amazon said that it has helped Indian vendors to export a total of $ 13 billion items since 2015. The company has targeted India to take exports to $ 80 billion by 2030.
Small companies are protesting
Amid this decision of the government, organizations of small retailers are appealing not to change the rules. They believe that Amazon can harm the business of small businessmen with its financial strength. However, the government has clarified that exemption in rules will be applicable only for export and heavy fines and action will be taken against those who violate the rules. Last year, India’s Competition Commission accused Amazon of promoting some selected vendors, although the e-commerce platform company dismissed the allegations.
