The Election Commission has released the final voter list after the special intensive revision (SIR) held in Bihar. There were earlier 7 crore 89 lakh 69 thousand 844 voters in Bihar. The name of 65 lakh people was cut in SIR, after which 7.24 crores were reduced. The opposition created a lot of uproar over this and the matter reached the Supreme Court. Now 21 lakh new voters have been added to the final voter list released.
How to check your name?
The Commission said that now any voter can see his name and details by visiting the official portal https://voters.eci.gov.in/. The names of new voters have been added under the SIR process. Along with this, the deceased and duplicate entry has been removed. According to the Election Commission, the addresses of the voters who had transferred their transfer have also been updated.
Opposition raised questions on Election Commission
Regarding the SIR, the Election Commission had said that its objective is only to remain in the names of eligible voters and include missing voters. Questioning the SIR a few months before the election, several leaders of the India alliance, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi, had also taken out the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar and accused the Election Commission of helping the ruling alliance.
How many people applied after the release of draft voter list?
In the draft voter list released on 1 August 2025, 7 crore 24 lakh 5 thousand 756 voters were named by the Election Commission, that is, the name of 65.63 lakh people was cut as compared to earlier. After the draft voter list was released, ECI sent a notice to 3 lakh people. During this time, 2.17 lakh people cut the names, while 16.93 lakh people applied to add names.
In the final voter list released by ECI, 88,108 voters have increased in Muzaffarpur district, that is, the total number of voters has increased from 32,03,370 to 32,91,478. The number of voters in 14 assembly of Patna district has increased from 48,15,294 to 46,51,694.
