Transport policies have been changed in Abu Dhabi, focusing on the safety, discipline and convenience of students. Schools are being opened again for academic year 2025-26. In the changes made by the education department of Abu Dhabi, who can take the child from school, students can go to school by scooter or not.
According to the new rule, 9-12 class students will be allowed to come to school alone by bicycle. Apart from bicycle, there is also mention of coming from a scooter or other private vehicle, although some conditions have also been imposed. For this, the parents of the child have to sign a consent letter. It is written that how much distance the child will cover and only after coming to the school premises, the responsibility of the student will be the responsibility of the school.
If a school allows the use of private vehicles like bikes or scooters in its premises, then it will have to provide track and parking. Schools also have the right to control how and where to use them in the campus. It has been told that the students who will come to school by their private vehicle and if any incident happens on the way, then there will be no school responsibility for it.
Independent travel is not allowed for students under 15 years of age. These students will either leave school or guardian on their behalf. You can take elder siblings, younger siblings (classes 1 and above) aged 15 years or older, but this can only be done when the consent letter signed by the parents is provided.
School buses will be reserved only for students’ transport. School buses have been given 1 hour to reach from pick-up point to the last drop-off point. Every bus carrying students under 11 years of age should also have a registered supervisor besides the driver. Both the driver and supervisor must have an ITC permit.
An app has been designed by the government of Abu Dhabi, so that parents can monitor their children while going to school. It has been designed to improve school bus security. With this, the school bus can be tracked. This will reveal the pick-up and live location of the drop-off point.
