Surprisingly, where people used to scare Ravana earlier, today the courage of the thieves has increased so much that they started stealing the effigy of Ravana.
How are these thieves?
Actually these thieves often occur at night or morning. This is the time when artisans and shopkeepers are sleeping. In some cases only parts of the effigy are stolen such as face or lower part. It is clear that taxes take advantage of dark and deep sleep. To avoid this theft, artisans awaken all night to protect their effigies. They often tie the effigies to the wire to make it difficult to steal the effigies. But despite this, some effigies are stolen every year.
Impact on artisans and festival
These thefts are creating difficulties for the artisans. Artisans work hard to make these sons for weeks. There is not only financial loss due to stolen effigies, but also disrupting Dussehra. These thieves have now become a custom for the residents of Tatarpur and surrounding areas.
Artisans and local people make a lot of efforts to avoid these thieves but there is no use. Along with approaching the festival, a lot of monitoring and vigilance have to be done to reach the effigies safely to the place of burning safely.
