Maharashtra: ‘Reservation of OBC’s part of OBCs should not get Marathas’, Pankaja Munde said- I do not sleep

The issue of reservation has once again started arising in Maharashtra. Minister Pankaja Munde clearly stated at the Dussehra rally that the Maratha community should get reservation, but this reservation should not be with the share of Other Backward Classes (OBC).

He said that OBCs are already struggling with struggle and hunger, so it would not be appropriate to give reservation from their plate. Addressing the rally at Savargaon Ghat in Beed district, Munde appealed to the people that the demon of casteism should be destroyed from the society.

OBC’s share should not be cut- Pankaja Munde

Pankaja Munde said in his speech that his father Gopinath Munde was also a supporter of Maratha reservation and he himself is in its favor. He reiterated that “our aim is to provide Maratha reservation, but there should not be any deduction from the OBC’s share. My community is dying of hunger today and I do not sleep seeing the struggle.” According to PTI, he also made the people present in the rally aware that Maratha reservation is only their right, it should not be taken from the share of any other community.

The Maharashtra government issued a mandate (GR) to implement Hyderabad Gazetteer on 2 September, under which eligible members of the Maratha community will be able to apply for the Kunbi caste certificate. After the certificate is issued, Maratha can claim reservation under the OBC category. Reacting to this decision, Munde said that the OBC society is already struggling and they should not harm them. He also said that it is necessary to maintain balance in the society and the benefit of reservation should reach all qualified communities.

Casteism is the biggest threat of society- Pankaja Munde

In his speech, Munde described casteism as the biggest threat of society. Giving the example of Goddess Durga’s bloodbies demon, he said that today the demon of casteism is being born in the minds of the people. He prayed that Goddess Durga should give her strength so that this demon of casteism can be ended and the path of equality and justice is established in the society. He appealed to the people to eliminate casteism from their thoughts and actions and protect the rights of all communities.
