The police has made a big disclosure in the case of the death of journalist Rajiv Pratap in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The police have described it as a road accident, not a murder but a road accident after intensive investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Panwar told the media that Rajiv Pratap was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He said that CCTV footage has also confirmed that he was staggering and driving the car in the wrong direction.
Janak Panwar said that the police investigation revealed that on September 18, at around 7 pm, Rajiv along with his former student and cameraman Manbir Kaluda had gone to meet the chief constable Soban Singh appointed in the police line. The three drank alcohol while sitting at the taxi stand till 10 pm. After this, Soban Singh left from there but he came back at Rajiv’s behest.
Fighting in CCTV
Rajiv and Soban Singh again went to the market and ate food in a hotel and drunk alcohol. Rajiv came out of the hotel at around 11 pm. CCTV footage clearly showed that he was staggering drunk. After a while Soban Singh also came out and both sat in the car. Soban Singh came out after a while and Rajiv sat on the driving seat. In the footage, no one other than Rajiv showed inside the car.
He told that at 11:24 pm, Soban Singh spoke on Rajiv’s mobile. After this, Rajiv’s car was seen going towards Gangori in the CCTV camera of Gangori bridge at Badri Tiraha, Tekhala Bridge and finally at 11:38 pm. During this time, there was no one other than Rajiv in the car. Rajiv’s vehicle is not seen anywhere in the ATM and petrol pump CCTV after the Gangori bridge.
Stopped driving drunk
Soban Singh told the police that he explained to Rajiv a lot that he should not take the car forward, because he was drunk but Rajiv did not listen to him and went away saying that he would go back a little distance. Soban Singh thought that he might have gone to his sister’s house Kot Bungalow and he went after him but Rajiv did not meet him. Thinking that Soban Singh went back to his room in the morning.
Rajiv dies in accident
Police believe that around 11:40 pm, Rajiv’s vehicle crashed in Gangori. This thing became clear in the post mortem report too. He said that Rajiv’s drunkenness of alcohol, driving the car in the wrong direction, and driving a very little practice confirms that it was a road accident. Currently, SI Dilmohan Bisht is investigating this entire case.
