Indian cricket team’s hitman Rohit Sharma is in the news these days for snatching his captaincy. BCCI has recently handed over the command of the ODI team to Shubman Gill, due to which Team India will now embark on the Australian tour with a new captain. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s first statement after leaving the ODI captaincy has come out, which is now becoming increasingly viral on social media.
Rohit’s statement came from the stage of CEAT Awards
In fact, during the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2025 held in Mumbai on Tuesday, Rohit Sharma spoke to the media regarding the Australia tour. Rohit said, “I love playing against Australia. The people there understand and respect cricket. Playing there is always a different experience.”
Although he did not give any direct answer on leaving the captaincy, it was clearly visible from his statement that he is not much troubled by this change and is excited about the upcoming series.
Will play as a player on Australia tour
According to the information, Rohit Sharma will now participate in the ODI series in Australia as a player. Team India will play three ODI matches on this tour. The first match will be played on 19 October. Many cricket experts believe that this ODI series can prove to be the last ODI series of international career for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Selection committee’s statement also in discussion
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had confirmed that Rohit Sharma had already been informed about the change in captaincy. However, when he was asked whether Rohit and Kohli would remain a part of the team till the 2027 World Cup, he clearly said, “Right now they are playing and we are looking at them accordingly. It is too early to talk about 2027.”
Only after this statement of Agarkar, the discussion intensified that the selection committee is now preparing to gradually bring forward young players in the team.
Rohit’s record still stands today
Rohit Sharma has so far scored 2407 runs in 46 matches in ODI cricket. Talking about his record against Australia, he has scored 8 centuries and 9 half-centuries. There is also a record in his name for the historic innings of 264 runs, which no one has been able to break till date.
