What came out in the study?

A global study has revealed that across the world, mouth and throat cancer is most commonly seen in people who consume tobacco daily. Due to this, cancer cells develop very rapidly and it spreads throughout the mouth. In many cases this cancer even spreads to the throat. In their research, scientists found that things like nitrosamines (TSNAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in tobacco directly damage the DNA present in our cells and increase cancer cells by killing healthy cells. Talking about cigarettes, nicotine and tar are found in large quantities in it. It harms our lungs, but the smoke emanating from it does not come in direct contact with the body or cells, due to which it is less harmful than tobacco.

How does it feel like a habit?

Nowadays, consuming things like tobacco and gutka has become fashionable. Youngsters start consuming these intoxicants due to their stress, depression or peer pressure, which gradually becomes their habit. Once these things become a habit, it becomes very difficult to get rid of it. Chewing gutka or tobacco daily gradually causes minor wounds to form in the mouth. Apart from this, it also causes tooth decay, gum diseases and later it takes the form of cancer.

Generally, cancer treatment is very difficult and expensive. Even in that, the chances of survival of the patient are very less, because in most of the cases it is detected when the person is in the last stage. According to doctors, if this habit is stopped in time, then major diseases like cancer can be avoided in time. For this, it is very important to bring awareness among the people. For this, governments and many NGOs are also working at their level.
