After the mediation of America and President Donald Trump, a ceasefire has been announced between Israel and the Palestinian militant organization Hamas under the first phase of the Gaza peace plan. While the Israeli army is retreating after the announcement of the ceasefire, on Friday (October 10, 2025), thousands of displaced Palestinian citizens were moving barefoot after two years through barren land and piles of debris towards the ruins of their destroyed homes in the northern part of Gaza.

On Friday (October 10, 2025), long queues of displaced Palestinian families, carrying some of their salvaged belongings on bicycles, were moving through Gaza’s coastal highway towards Gaza City. Gaza, which was the largest urban area in the region and was also one of the main areas to suffer the worst attacks by Israel.

While many families were heading towards South Gaza through the ruins of Khan Yunis, which was once Gaza’s second largest urban area, the entire area has been reduced to a pile of dust and stones after Israeli attacks.

Palestinians who returned to Gaza land reacted

According to Reuters report, Ahmed al-Brim, a middle-aged man, reacting to his return said that we have returned to our area, but it has been completely destroyed. Ahmed was moving on his bicycle carrying pieces of wood, which he was going to use as firewood to protect himself from the cold. Ahmed said, ‘We neither got any furniture nor clothes to wear. Even winter clothes were not available to protect from the cold. Everything has been ruined.

Bodies of more than 100 people pulled out from the debris

Gaza health officials said that after the declaration of ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops, relief and rescue teams have so far pulled out the bodies of more than 100 people from the pile of debris.

The ceasefire came into effect at around 12 noon local time in Gaza, which is the first concrete step in the 20-point comprehensive Gaza peace plan announced by US President Donald Trump earlier this week. The purpose of this step under the plan was to put an end to the conflict and war going on between Israel and Hamas for the last two years.
