Seat sharing has been announced in the Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance i.e. NDA for Bihar elections. For the 2025 assembly elections, Janata Dal United and Bharatiya Janata Party will contest on 101-101 seats. Whereas Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) headed by Union Minister Chirag Paswan will contest on 29 seats, Rashtriya Lok Morcha headed by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha will contest on 6 seats and Hindustani Awam Morcha headed by Union Minister and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi will contest on 6 seats.
In this election, JDU and BJP will contest on equal number of seats. While JDU is in NDA, this is probably the first time that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party and BJP are contesting elections on equal number of seats. In such a situation, the existence of JDU as its elder brother is also almost coming to an end. At the same time, JDU’s political status in coalition politics also seems to be decreasing.

What do the figures say?
If we look at the figures, JDU contested on 138 seats in the February 2005 elections. BJP fielded its candidates on 103 seats. However, since no coalition could get majority, the government could not be formed and elections were held in October 2005. In this election, JDU contested on 139 seats and BJP on 102 seats.
After this came the 2010 elections when JDU fielded its candidates on 141 and BJP on 102 assembly seats. In the 2015 elections, when JDU contested the elections with Rashtriya Janata Dal headed by Lalu Prasad Yadav, RJD and JDU contested on 101-101 seats.
What is 1 decade old history?
Before the 2020 elections, the alliance of RJD and JDU broke and Nitish Kumar again came together with BJP led NDA. In this election, JDU contested on 115 seats and BJP on 110 seats.
In this election, Nitish Kumar’s JDU is contesting on 101 seats, repeating the history of the 2015 elections. In the 2015 elections, JDU won 71 seats and RJD won 80 seats.
