Farooq Abdullah offered Rajya Sabha seat, Congress rejected it! Refused to contest elections, angry about what?


Rajya Sabha elections are going to be held on four seats in Jammu and Kashmir, for which India Alliance’s allies National Conference and Congress have geared up. After a marathon meeting of four and a half hours, Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Sunday (October 12) announced that it will not contest from the Rajya Sabha seat offered by the National Conference as the seat is ‘risky’.

State Congress Committee President Tariq Hamid Karra has informed that he has decided not to contest the elections on the fourth seat given to him.

NC did not give the seat that Congress had asked for.

Hamid Karra said, “There has been an intense discussion regarding the Rajya Sabha elections. The members were of unanimous opinion that our central leadership had demanded a safe seat, either seat number 1 or 2. However, the National Conference has offered us seat number 4, which is less safe than the other seats.

Congress wrote a letter to Farooq-Omar Abdullah

Considering the circumstances, it has been unanimously decided that we will not field any candidate on seat number 4 and will leave this decision to our alliance partners. He further said that the party has informed the National Conference leadership about its position.

Hamid Karra said, “We have officially written a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about our decision. On his request, we have also sent the letter to Farooq Abdullah. However, no response has been received from his side yet.”

Congress angry with National Conference?

The State Congress President said that the Congress members have expressed their displeasure and displeasure over the government, development issues and the lack of coordination committee among the alliance partners.
